Residents, commuters and transporters plying around Aba-Opobo-Azumini Road are crying, gnashing their teeth over the deplorable condition of the road.
DrumAfricanews reports that the Aba-Opobo-Azumini Road, which is an important inlet and outlet of Aba that links to both Akwa-Ibom and Rivers State.
The road which is equally has important facilities like the modern Aba mechanic village and the National Institute of Nigerian Languages (NINLAN).
The situation has gotten worst for residents of Ogbor-Hill area of Aba like Ovom, Emeleogu and other axis as they are currently facing severe mobility challenges following the blockade of a popular shortcut route connecting Okpuafor to Umunkama.

The situation came amid long-standing complaints over the deplorable state of the Opobo Road by the Mechanic Village axis, which has become virtually impassable due to the absence of a functional drainage system.
DrumAfricanews reports that the road is waterlogged, causing significant difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians alike, thereby forcing them to seek navigation from routes where they are prevented from making use of.

As gathered, Umunkama residents have constructed a gate across the shortcut and secured it with a padlock, effectively restricting the movement of persons and vehicles attempting to bypass the main road’s dilapidated section.
The action was taken in response to the heavy traffic and wear on the alternative route caused by motorists avoiding the main Opobo Road.
The situation has reportedly created palpable tension in the area, raising fears of possible confrontation between affected commuters and the residents enforcing the blockade.
Stakeholders are calling on the appropriate authorities to urgently intervene by addressing the root cause to restore normalcy and prevent any escalation.
