Governor Chukwuma Soludo has disclosed that approval has been secured for the establishment of an Army brigade in Anambra State, with hundreds of soldiers expected to be deployed to further strengthen security operations across the state.
Speaking at the third anniversary of the Anambra State House of Assembly, which coincided with the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, the Governor said, “Yesterday, I received a delegation from the Army that is working to set up a brigade. That has been approved and will be established. They will be building their barracks here, and hundreds, if not up to a thousand, soldiers will be here very soon.”
The Governor reflected on Nigeria’s 27-year democratic journey, acknowledging improvements in electoral processes.
He maintained that, despite its imperfections, the current democratic system remains far better than alternative forms of governance and should be appreciated and strengthened.
Commending the Legislature, Governor Soludo described the State House of Assembly as one of the most productive in the state’s history, noting its passage of several consequential laws, prominent among them the Local Government Administration Law, which he said has strengthened grassroots governance, improved fiscal stability, and enabled the clearance of gratuity arrears owed to retirees, as well as the Homeland Security Law, which has reinforced the state’s security architecture.
Speaking earlier in his address, the Speaker, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, noted that the 8th Assembly has recorded significant legislative achievements within three years, enacting forty-five laws and considering over ninety motions aimed at strengthening governance and driving development in Anambra State.
He attributed these accomplishments to the strong working relationship between the Legislature and the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
