The Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs has informed the general public that the Government is aware of a case of child abuse involving Mr. Lambert Evans Uzoma against his 12-year-old son, Master Ugonna Uzoma.
Dr. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa, Commissioner
Ministry of Women Affairs Abia State revealed that Master Uzoma sustained serious bruises on different parts of his body as a result of alleged torture by his father.
She said that the government is already directly involved in the handling of the matter, which has led to the arrest and detention of the suspect by the Police.
Aghukwa said that the victim is presently in the custody of the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs and will be taken to the hospital to receive the necessary medical attention.
She said that while the Police continue with their investigation, the government assures the public that the suspect will be made to face the full wrath of the law if found culpable.
“The public is further enjoined not to hesitate to report any case of child abuse and other related offences in any part of the State to the Ministry of Women Affairs or any other relevant government agency, so that perpetrators can be made to answer for their actions.”
