The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the resumption of petrol sales in naira following federal government intervention.
In a fresh memo to marketers on Saturday, the refinery said the reversal came after the Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee stepped in to resolve earlier disputes.
The refinery urged marketers to immediately place orders in naira for both self-collection and delivery to designated depots across the country.
Suspension Caused Panic Among Marketers
Just a day earlier, the refinery had shocked the market with an announcement that it would halt fuel sales in naira starting Sunday, September 28, 2025.
The suspension was linked to the exhaustion of its naira-for-crude allocation, a government-backed arrangement that allows local buyers to access fuel in the local currency.
The announcement had sparked panic among oil marketers and fears of another round of fuel price hikes, with many already struggling with forex shortages.
FG’s Quick Intervention Eases Tension
Following the outcry, the federal government swiftly moved in through the Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee, which brokered a deal to keep petrol sales in naira running.
Industry watchers say the intervention is crucial to stabilizing the market and shielding Nigerians from further shocks in fuel prices, especially with inflation and currency devaluation already biting hard.
