The Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Aba and Bishop of Isiala Ngwa South Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Isaac Nwaobia, has charged the federal government and all leaders in authority to provide responsible, sacrificial, and people-centred leadership for Nigerians.
Nwaobia, who also urged the government to prioritise the security of lives and property across the nation, equally charged Christians and all Nigerians to draw strength and faith from the resurrection of Christ and rise above fear and hopelessness in the face of the current economic hardship, insecurity, and social unrest.
Delivering his 2026 Easter message on Friday, the cleric said the celebration of Easter this year comes against the backdrop of persistent attacks on innocent communities, especially in Northern Nigeria, which are deeply troubling and demand urgent, decisive, and sustained action.
He charged governments at all levels to rise to their constitutional responsibility by strengthening security architecture, ensuring justice for victims, and restoring confidence among citizens.
Reiterating the call for responsible and people-orientated leadership, Archbishop Nwaobia said that no nation can thrive where fear reigns.
“Furthermore, the recent hike in fuel pump price has placed an unbearable burden on Nigerians, worsening the already fragile economic situation.
“We call on the government to urgently revisit this policy, considering its far-reaching impact on transportation, food prices, and the overall wellbeing of citizens.”
Archbishop Nwaobia equally called on Christians (all Nigerians) to reflect Christ in their daily living—promoting peace, upholding justice, forgiving one another, and extending compassion to the weak and vulnerable.
The head of the all Anglican Communion in Abia State further charged Christians to let their lives preach the Gospel through integrity, unity, and selfless service to their nation, Nigeria.
Giving his message of hope to Christians, Archbishop Nwaobia said that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a divine assurance that no situation is beyond redemption and no burden is beyond God’s power to lift.
He added that the resurrection of Christ especially calls on Christians in Nigeria to live transformed lives marked by righteousness, love, and unwavering faith.
Archbishop Nwaobia, in conclusion of his sermon, prayed for Nigerian leaders and asked God to guide them right to use their leadership positions to heal the entire nation.
“As Christ rose to bring new life, may this season inspire a renewed commitment to justice, equity, and national transformation,” he prayed.
