PRESS RELEASE

Congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as WTO DG

It is my pleasure to heartily congratulate Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her historic appointment as the first female and first African Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

Okonjo-Iweala’s continues to break frontiers in her career with such grace that distinguishes her as a beacon of hope, a jinx breaker and an inspiration for women and girls everywhere. Her exploits continue to inspire and make Nigerians all over the world proud. Her experience spanning several years in health, finance, economy and trade all coalesce to made her the ideal candidate for the position. Indeed, her appointment comes at the right time; a time where her wealth of experience will improve global efforts to ensure broader distribution of vaccines in the pandemic. I am optimistic that her appointment would support AfCFTA implementation efforts in Africa.

I remain positive that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala will continue to make us proud and wish her a very successful tenure.

Signed,

Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu
