Rep. Benjamin O. Kalu, member representing Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has stated that APC will participate in the coming local government elections in Abia State. He made this statement while receiving aspirants in the local government elections in Bende LGA who paid him a courtesy call to rob minds with him on the way forward for the party in the federal constituency. He also used the opportunity to call on all APC leaders in Abia State to arise and build from the ward level by ensuring that their candidates win the Councillors’ election as well as Chairmanship of the local government.
In his statement, he said;
“Whether conducted by INEC or ABSEIC, APC will participate in the next election, the same way the opposition parties in states like Abia ran for election under President Buhari who is in APC and did not get any interference from the presidency. We do not expect any interference from the Governor knowing that he is a decent gentle man. The same way President Buhari did not allow him to be frustrated in the last election, it is time for him to reciprocate this magnanimity to all candidates of APC. I am sure history will judge him fairly at the end if he allows the people’s vote to count like he did in the previous election in Bende; the reason we chose to work fully with his government.
In Bende, my constituents who are aspiring to run in the coming Local Government Area election will be given support by APC to run and win, the way PDP ran and won in the State.
The Government of President Buhari which assented to the Not Too Young To Run Bill is interested in raising leaders especially young ones with innovations to help develop our wards and local governments areas. He is currently supporting the local governments to operate at their optimal level and is therefore interested in the outcome of the elections.
I am currently in discussion with my political party on this and soon will step firmly out to ensure that the good governance of APC will resonate across Bende federal constituency. All interested constituents under APC should not shy away from this but should get ready as I encourage the leadership of the party to select only the very best from their wards for the coming election. The September 30th election is only 6 months away, APC aspirants should prepare for it and not step back thinking it will be conducted by ABSIEC; at the end it could be INEC. Prepare as if it is ABSIEC because it will make you till the ground better so that if INEC handles it as expected, we will not be disadvantaged.
I also encourage the constituents to have confidence in the transparency of ABSIEC or INEC in the coming election.”
