On Friday, 31st July 2020, Rep Benjamin Kalu (Member, representing Bende Federal Constituency) attended the official opening ceremony and annual public lecture series of a top private school in his constituency known as Higher Grounds Academy.
He visited the school with Professor Victor Ukaego (Chairman of the Education Committee of the Bende Constituency Office) and Chief Daniel Akwari (Chairman of the Contact and Mobilisation Committee of Benjamin Kalu Foundation) among others.
During the occasion, the school’s library was christened the “Benjamin Kalu Library” in honour of Rep. Kalu for his numerous contributions towards the educational development of the people of Bende Federal Constituency and Nigeria as a whole.
The occasion was also attended by Abia State Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu, Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi (the member representing Bende south constituency in the Abia House of assembly), Hagler PhD (the Chairman Bende LGA transition committee), commissioners and special advisers to the Governor.
When asked how he felt about a top school library being named after him, Rep. Benjamin Kalu said;
“To appreciate the work I am doing for Bende and Nigeria as a whole, a top private school known as Higher Grounds Academy in my constituency, honoured me by naming her library after me“
“I was conducted around the school and was highly impressed with what I saw.’
With enterprises like this, there is hope for education in Bende and I will continue to play my part to ensure indigenes of Bende are empowered with education.”
