PDP Denies Anyanwu’s Forgery Claim Over INEC Convention Letter

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing fresh internal heat as the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, accused unnamed party members of forging his signature on an official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); a move he described as “shocking” and “unauthorised.”

Anyanwu, in three separate letters dated October 15, 2025, alleged that his signature was cloned on documents sent to INEC concerning the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15.

He called on INEC, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to launch a full investigation and prosecute those behind what he termed a “criminal act.”

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature,” Anyanwu stated.

But the party’s national leadership says he’s lying; or simply playing politics.

In a swift response during a press briefing in Abuja, PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba described Anyanwu’s claim as false and misleading.

According to him, Anyanwu personally signed the INEC letter just hours before the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on August 25, 2025.

Ologunagba said the documents were signed in the presence of high-ranking party members, including five serving governors: Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).

He added that Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, even confirmed at the NEC meeting that the INEC letter and all related documents were duly signed and in order.

“We are a law and order party. We follow due process. The facts are there. You can verify them,” Ologunagba said confidently.

While the party tries to downplay the scandal, political watchers believe the drama is a clear symptom of deep internal wrangling ahead of the 2027 elections.

Senator Anyanwu, who once ran for governor in Imo State and still commands strong influence in the South-East, is believed to be in a cold war with some factions in the party’s leadership – especially over control of convention proceedings and delegate lists.

With the November 15 convention fast approaching, party insiders say the forgery claim may be tied to a bigger power struggle, possibly aimed at discrediting the legitimacy of the upcoming convention if things don’t go a certain way.
