Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ifeyinwa Juliana Odo has become the first female police officer to occupy the position of Aba Area Commander following her recent transfer to the command in Abia commercial capital, Aba.
The Executive Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, received the newly appointed Aba Area Commander in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration between the local government and the police command for sustained peace and security across Aba.
ACP Odo paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor at his office, where both sides discussed the importance of deeper institutional cooperation in tackling security challenges and maintaining the prevailing peace within the Aba metropolis.
Welcoming the Area Commander, Mayor Anyanwu acknowledged the immense contributions of the police command to security and public safety in Aba, particularly its prompt response to emerging security situations across the metropolis.
The mayor assured ACP Odo of the readiness of Aba South Local Government to work closely with the Area Command and provide all necessary support within its capacity to enhance effective security coordination.
He emphasised that a strong partnership between the council and security agencies remains essential to creating a safe and conducive environment for residents, businesses and visitors, especially in a commercial city such as Aba.
Anyanwu also noted that the appointment of ACP Odo reflects the gender-sensitive and inclusive character of the administration of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, which continues to provide opportunities for competent professionals to serve in strategic positions.
In her response, ACP Odo commended the high level of security consciousness demonstrated by residents of Aba South and appreciated the mayor for the warm reception accorded her.
The new area commander pledged to sustain the existing peace in Aba while working towards strengthening cooperation, unity and mutual understanding between the Aba Area Command and Aba South Local Government.
She stressed the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining security, noting that effective policing is enhanced when security agencies, government institutions, traditional authorities, community leaders and residents work together.
The area commander was accompanied on the visit by CSP Frank Omelu.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Martins Azubuike; the Leader of Aba South Legislative Council, Rt Hon. Prince Paul Nwandu; and the Secretary to the Aba South Local Government, among other officials.
The visit further underscored the commitment of the Aba South administration and the police command to building a stronger security partnership capable of sustaining peace, protecting lives and property, and supporting the continued development of Aba as one of the nation’s major commercial and industrial centres.
