The people of the Ahiaba Ubi community in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area have expressed gratitude to the Abia State commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, for the prosecution of Chukwudi Eguzowa, a 49-year-old man suspected to be a notorious drug kingpin.
The community equally thanked the Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Abia State, CSP Oracle Emeka and CSP Obinna Omenihu of the VCRU Olokoro Unit with other officers who made sure that the drug kingpin was prosecuted and remanded as the case continues.
As gathered, the hearing of the case has been adjourned, and the court directed that Eguzowa be remanded at the Afara Correctional Centre until the adjourned date, which is the 29th of October 2026.
DrumAfricanews reports that Eguzowa was charged to a magistrate court sitting at Okpuala Ngwa, magisterial district, in Charge No. MON/123C/2026 on Tuesday, 22/09/2026, and was subsequently remanded to Afara Correctional Centre in Umuahia.
Eguzowa, who is now the defendant while the Abia State commissioner for police is the complainant, was charged with Section 1(2)(15) Miscellaneous offence, Section 11 of the National Drug Law of the Federation of Nigeria of 2004 as applicable in Abia State.
As gathered, the hearing of the case has been adjourned, and the court directed that Eguzowa be conveyed to the Afara Correctional Centre until the adjourned date, which is the 29th of October 2026.
However, DSP Maureen Chinaka, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who refused to speak at the earliest stage of the matter finally confirmed the arrest of Eguzouwa.
She said that bags containing substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, “Scottish loud”, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other hard drugs were recovered as exhibits.
Narrating how the operation took place, the PPRO said that “in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, on intelligence-led raids aimed at ensuring that the State is no dwelling place for criminal hideouts, and in alignment with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police on intelligence-led policing, operatives of the Violent Response Unit, Anti-Cultism Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, on 18/09/2026, carried out a well-coordinated raid on criminal hideouts at Ahiabubi, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, where the above-mentioned suspect, known as a notorious drug dealer within the community, was apprehended.”
“During the operation, bags containing substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, ‘scottish loud’, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other hard drugs were recovered. Upon conclusion of investigations, today, 22/09/2026, the suspect was arraigned in court and remanded in a correctional facility.”
Chinaka said that the commissioner of police, Abia State command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and warned all criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law, as Abia State will no longer be a safe haven for criminal activities.
