The Imo State House of Assembly has called on Governor Hope Uzodimma, to initiate urgent steps toward the recovery and revitalization of inactive government-owned companies and agencies.

The resolution followed deliberations during plenary on March 24, 2026, where the Deputy Speaker, Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu emphasized the need to harness dormant economic assets for revenue generation, employment creation, and overall socioeconomic advancement.

Presenting the motion Iwuanyanwu, who represents Nwangele State Constituency, highlighted the vast untapped potential of several state-owned enterprises.

He noted that many of these establishments, once vibrant contributors to economic growth, have remained inactive for years, thereby depriving the state of significant revenue and job opportunities.

Among the affected entities cited were industrial and agricultural ventures established through partnerships with local and international investors, including manufacturing outfits and agro-based companies spread across the state.

He stressed that their continued dormancy has contributed to unemployment, loss of skilled manpower, and slowed economic development.

Iwuanyanwu, however, expressed optimism that with the existing infrastructural improvements and enhanced security under the current administration, these entities can be revived to drive sustainable growth.

The motion, seconded by Johnson Iheonukara Duru of Ideato South, received broad support from lawmakers across constituencies, with several members contributing in favor of immediate government intervention.

Following extensive debate, the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe, presided over a unanimous adoption of the motion.

Consequently, the House resolved to formally urge the state government to undertake a comprehensive audit of all moribund enterprises, design and implement a structured revitalization framework, recover lost or underutilized assets, and reposition the entities for profitability and economic impact.

Lawmakers further emphasized that the revival process should prioritize youth employment, ensuring that the restored enterprises serve as viable platforms for job creation and skill development across Imo State.

The Clerk of the House has been mandated to communicate the resolution to the Governor for necessary executive action.
