Popular socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, has appealed to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to use his office to rally South-East leaders and push for the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was recently sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of terrorism.
Expressing concern over rising tensions and insecurity on the South-East, Cubana Chief Priest insisted that peace must return to the region. He argued that Kanu was not a terrorist but an activist.
He urged the Deputy Speaker to employ diplomacy to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release, describing the IPOB leader as “the best freedom fighter.”
On his X handle on Friday, Chief Priest wrote,
“We need peace in the South-East. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has never been a terrorist and has never been a harmful man. He has only asked for good governance in our region.
“Deputy Speaker Kanu, use your office to assemble South-East elites and secure his release. As far as I’m concerned, he is the best among every freedom fighter I have seen in my life.”
Cubana Chief Priest has earlier warned that President Bola Tinubu risks losing support for his reelection bid in the South-East if the judgement against Kanu was not overturned.
He lambasted Tinubu’s ministers and aides from the region for not being honest to the President about how the judgement against Kanu would affect his support base in the South-East.
