Former NNPP chieftain and House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), officially ending his political journey with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, confirmed his defection on Monday in a statement shared with his supporters. He also declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The lawmaker said he was received by thousands of supporters in his hometown of Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area, where he made the formal announcement.
“In a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents,” Jibrin said. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office.”
According to him, more than 2,000 Islamic clerics were present at the event, offering special prayers for Tinubu, as well as for peace and development in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria at large.
Jibrin was a key ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, NNPP presidential candidate and former Kano governor. However, his relationship with the party soured after his expulsion two months ago over alleged anti-party activities and unpaid dues.
Before joining NNPP in 2022, Jibrin had served as Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups, a major platform that mobilised for Tinubu’s 2023 victory. His return to APC now appears to seal his renewed political alliance with the President.
