Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has said that he is not in support of Biafra’s separatist agenda.
Speaking during a live interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, the former CBN governor said while he identifies fully as an Igbo man, he does not believe secession is the way forward. Instead, Soludo is calling for constructive dialogue with Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), once he is released from detention.
“I am of the view that the Igbo man needs Nigeria; Nigeria needs the Igbo man,” Soludo said.
With political tensions rising in the South-East and the October 20, 2025 protest for Kanu’s release drawing national attention, Soludo’s statement is timely.
While he didn’t oppose the planned protest, he took a firm stand against the continued push for secession. Instead, Soludo is proposing a roundtable dialogue once Kanu is out of DSS custody.
“When Nnamdi Kanu comes out, we are all going to sit down and interrogate our alternative vision for Igbo land,” he added.
Nnamdi Kanu, the controversial IPOB leader, was rearrested in Kenya in 2021 and has since been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). He faces charges related to terrorism and treasonable felony – charges his supporters and lawyers continue to contest.
The renewed push for his release, led by activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, has sparked renewed debates about Igbo marginalization, freedom of speech, and the future of the South-East in the Nigerian project.
