The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come down hard on activist and Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, over his planned protest calling for the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
APC’s Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, in a strongly worded statement, accused Sowore of once again “seeking cheap attention” by jumping on a sensitive issue that is already before the court.
“It is both baffling and laughable that Sowore, a man with no cultural or political connection to the Southeast, now parades himself as the rallying point of Ndigbo,” Oladejo said.
The party said Sowore’s activism has become more about noise than nation-building, calling it “a theatre of convenience.”
Oladejo described Sowore’s protest plans as a mockery of the rule of law and a disservice to the Igbo people, whom he believes are capable of speaking for themselves.
“Ndigbo do not need a political wanderer in borrowed robes to define their interests,” he said.
He stressed that the judiciary is actively handling the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and that any protest at this stage is not only unnecessary but legally questionable.
Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, is known for his fiery activism and street protests. Over the years, he’s taken on the government with protests like #RevolutionNow, which led to his multiple arrests by the Department of State Services (DSS).
His critics say his methods are often more dramatic than strategic – with many accusing him of being more interested in trending topics than real change.
This latest move to stage a protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, in Lagos has sparked backlash, especially from APC stakeholders who believe he’s meddling in matters far beyond his political reach.
