Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has signed a ₦695 billion supplementary budget into law – a move seen by many as a strong push to fast-track development across the state.
The signing happened on Wednesday during the October edition of the Project Delivery Meeting at the Government House in Uyo.
With this budget now into law, the governor wasted no time in backing it up with action. He announced the immediate release of ₦60 billion to contractors handling key infrastructure projects, particularly those with ready Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs).
This fresh injection of funds is expected to breathe life into several ongoing projects, especially in rural communities, where roads, health centres, and schools have been top priorities for the administration.
Governor Umo Eno also issued a clear directive to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure timely delivery and uphold quality standards. Delivery Advisors were not left out, as they too were charged to monitor progress closely and avoid delays.
“Let me assure the people of Akwa Ibom that we are fully committed to accountable and people-centred governance. This supplementary budget is not just figures on paper, it is fuel for development,” Eno said.
According to him, every kobo will count, and every project will be executed with full transparency.
The ₦695 billion supplementary budget comes just months after the 2025 fiscal budget was passed. But with rising inflation, growing project demands, and new development priorities under the ARISE Agenda, the need for additional funds became inevitable.
Analysts say this move shows the administration’s agility in adjusting to the realities on ground, especially with many rural communities still grappling with poor infrastructure.
