Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has appealed to politicians and party stakeholders to put aside bitterness and embrace unity as the state marked its 38th anniversary.
Speaking at a special banquet in Uyo, the governor reminded political leaders that beyond party lines, everyone remains an Akwa Ibomite. He stressed the need to “play politics with a human face,” warning that rancour and division could harm the state’s progress.
“We Must Put Akwa Ibom First”
Governor Eno praised the transformation of Akwa Ibom from its humble beginnings in 1987 to what he described as a “destination of choice.” He attributed the state’s steady growth to the contributions of successive leaders and promised to sustain the peace and development.
He also pledged to work across party divides, assuring that the PDP-led government would collaborate with the APC and other opposition groups to maintain stability.
“We would continue to do our very best to unite our state in spite of our political differences. After politics, we will all return as Akwa Ibomites,” he told the gathering.
Tinubu’s Support, Leaders’ Reflections
Governor Eno commended President Bola Tinubu for releasing funds to states, saying it has allowed his government to deliver projects without resorting to borrowing.
Also present at the event was Akwa Ibom’s pioneer military administrator, Col. Tunde Ogbeha (rtd), who reflected on the state’s journey from creation in 1987 to its current growth, praising the resilience of its people.
In a rare show of bipartisanship, the state chairmen of the APC, Stephen Ntukekpo, and the PDP, Aniekan Akpan, both pledged their support for the governor’s peace efforts, hailing him for keeping Akwa Ibom stable across party lines.
