Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, has dismissed reports of an impending face-off between lawmakers and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, insisting that the Speaker enjoys the full confidence of members.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Agbese described Abbas as “the best in providing quality leadership, attending to members’ welfare and supporting constituency development.”
The Benue lawmaker, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, stressed that there is no rift within the House, contrary to speculation. According to him, “the confidence of members in Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen is not negotiable and unwavering.”
He noted that since taking office, the Speaker has carried members along in decision-making, upheld fairness across party lines, and prioritized members’ welfare. Agbese added that attempts to drag Abbas into matters outside his constitutional role were “unfortunate.”
“As a leader with a listening ear, the Speaker has set up two special committees to address concerns being raised. One is chaired by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, while the other is chaired by former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase,” Agbese explained.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, elected in June 2023, leads the 10th House of Representatives under the “People’s House” mantra, which emphasizes inclusiveness, welfare, and effective legislative engagement.
