Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Hezekiah Bamiji, has described the defection of two senators who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a miscalculation by the lawmakers.
Amid the speculation about Governor Adeleke’s possible defection to the ruling APC, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, and Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central, decamped to the ruling party on Wednesday.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Bamiji said the federal lawmakers dumped the PDP because they thought the governor was planning to join the APC.
According to him, the lawmakers miscalculated by falling into the trap of the ruling party.
Bamiji said, “Maybe what I can say is a kind of miscalculation on the part of the lawmakers. The rumour perhaps overwhelmed them, thinking that the governor was coming, they felt that they were Abuja politicians and should be faster than the governor.
“The governor is the leader of the party in Osun State. I felt they should have consulted with their leader and perhaps also the people in their various constituencies, but I am not sure that was done.
“Even if the governor was going to move, did they ask the governor any questions? Yes, the APC set a trap for them, and they entered.”
The governor’s aide maintained that his principal does not need to move to the APC to deliver governance to the people of Osun State.
