Coalition of health workers in Abia State comprising National association of Nigerian Nurses, Medical and Health Union of Nigeria and Nigerian union of allied workers have issued a 15 days ultimatum to the State government to pay the reviewed consolidated health salary structure (CONHESS).
This is as the coalition says it has mandated individual unions to start mobilizing their members across the State about the plans to embark on strike if CONHESS is not paid.
In a press release signed by Chairman of Nigerian Nurses and midwives, Ngozi Duke, Chairman of Medical and health union of Nigeria, Offor Solomon and Chairman of Nigerian Union of allied health workers, Oparaocha Chibueze, the health workers said that the State government was yet to respond to the earlier 21 days ultimatum that expired on March 26, 2025.
According to the health workers, the demands contained in the 21 days ultimatum were not addressed by the State government as no government official formally engaged them in discussion on the unpaid consolidated salary structure.
“However, the reason for the continued delay in payment is what we don’t know as no one has communicated the union in that direction.
It is it very worthy to know that this undue delay has thrown out members into a state of financial hardship which is not just unacceptable but undermines the well-being and motivation of health workers who are essential to the delivering of quality healthcare services in Abia State.
“The coalition of Abia health union is compelled to invoke Section 41 of Trade Dispute Act Cap T8 , laws of the Federation of Nigeria to issue 15 days notice of withdrawal of services if our demand is not reasonable addressed “, the statement said..
