As preparations for the 2025 Hajj gain momentum, no fewer than 1,700 intending pilgrims in Sokoto State have made their initial deposits, according to the state’s Pilgrims Welfare Agency.
The agency’s acting secretary, Alhaji Ladan Ibrahim, disclosed this on Monday during a media briefing in his office, highlighting the progress made and the challenges still ahead.
Ladan expressed confidence that more prospective pilgrims would complete their payments before the final deadline and that NAHCON has allocated 5,216 seats to the state.
“We have already secured accommodation for our pilgrims in both Mecca and Medina, finalised negotiations with catering services in Mecca, and arranged comfortable camp facilities. So far, the state has remitted over ₦5 billion to NAHCON,” Ladan stated.
Despite significant progress, Ladan urged NAHCON to extend the payment deadline to accommodate more intending pilgrims, especially those from rural areas.
“Previously, we were allowed to make payments even after Ramadan. If NAHCON grants an extension of at least two weeks, we are confident that all allocated seats will be fully subscribed,” he appealed.
He also revealed that discussions are ongoing with the state government for additional financial support to assist pilgrims in meeting their obligations.
“Last year, the governor provided financial assistance to pilgrims. We are hopeful that similar support will be granted this year,” he added.
Ladan reassured all intending pilgrims that the agency remains committed to providing a seamless and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all participants from Sokoto State.
