The Kebbi State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of third-party motor insurance across the state, following directives from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The initiative seeks to enforce mandatory motor insurance while improving road safety.

According to a statement released by the spokesman for the command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, and made available to journalists, the enforcement operation, which began on February 1, 2025, is being closely supervised by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, who is personally overseeing compliance efforts in the state capital.

“Area Commanders have also been directed to implement similar measures in their respective jurisdictions,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, speaking on the exercise, reiterated the importance of third-party insurance, emphasising that it serves as an essential protection for both motorists and road users.

He urged all vehicle owners in the state to ensure their insurance policies are up to date to avoid sanctions.

The enforcement of third-party motor insurance is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader strategy to regulate road use, reduce financial risks associated with accidents, and promote a responsible driving culture among motorists.

CSP Abubakar reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring compliance.

He encouraged residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers, assuring them that the exercise was in the best interest of public safety and order.

Motorists in Kebbi State are advised to obtain valid third-party insurance promptly, as defaulters risk facing penalties under existing laws.
