Reps Spokesperson and Member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Rep. Benjamin Kalu took his birthday celebration to the Internally Displaced Persons Camp at Area 1, Abuja today, May 5th 2023.
The Representative while speaking to the a correspondent during the visit expressed his pleasure celebrating such a special day with persons in the camp highlighting that such a day is not always for jamboree but also to reach out to citizens who need love and reassurance.
Speaking to the persons at the camp, Rep. Kalu recalled his first visit to the four years ago upon his resumption into office and the prayers they made on his behalf which he said have been working.
He highlighted that as a leader in the nation, he doesn’t just represent Bende Federal Constituency but the entire Nation, whatever pains one citizen is also a pain for him, irrespective of tribe, religion and region.
In his words;
As one nation, we must all feel the pains of one another, if it’s hurting in one region, it is also hurting for another. If we want to build a better Nigeria, we must all come together to address our problems. This is our problem, a Nigerian problem and it affects us all.
Rep. Kalu encouraged other Representatives and elected officials to also make time to visit the camps;
“I want to use this opportunity to call on elected officials in government not to leave all of these for Governments Agencies to solve the problems. We should once in a while come and interact with these IDP Camps to hear from them and know their problems to enable us bring interventions that will elevate their suffering.” He said
Also Speaking to a Drum Africa Correspondent, the Woman Leader of the Camp, Mrs. Liyatu Yusuf expressed delight in the visit of the Representative. In her words;
“It is amazing to see our daddy come back to visit again as he promised four years ago, he brought so many things for the camp then and we prayed for him that God will take him higher and higher in his journey. Today he has come back again to see us, with so many gifts, he has also given money to buy materials that we need at the health center, we are grateful and today we are praying again that God will always bless him, protect him and take him higher in all his endeavors”
The PRO of the Camp, Mr. Umar Gola also expressed their gratitude to the Honorable Member for coming back to fulfill his promise, he emphasized that since his last visit, no lawmaker has visited the camp, adding that Rep. Kalu is the first and now also the second. He pleaded with other elected officials to visit the camp as they need a lot of support to survive.
