The Association of Nigerian Students in Wuhan, China have issued a letter to the federal government requesting urgent evacuation of over 68 Nigerian students and children stranded in Wuhan, China, the epicentre of the deadly Coronavirus.
The letter, signed by the acting president and secretary of the association, was addressed to the Nigerian Ambassador to China as well as Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
In the letter, the Association recalled the suggestion of the President of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) China that Nigerian students in Wuhan were in need of financial assistance. While clarifying their position on the issue of financial assistance, the Association emphasised that their paramount need was for the urgent evacuation of the stranded 68 students and children.
The position of the Association comes following the motion of Hon. Benjamin Kalu, spokesperson of the House of Representatives on the need to evacuate Nigerians stranded in China, which was turned down by the House yesterday.
