Benjamin Kalu visits Apuanu Item Water Scheme

In continuation of his familiarization/fact-finding tour of his constituency, Chief Benjamin Kalu last Wednesday, December 12, 2018, visited the Apuanu Item Water Scheme which was constructed in 1979 under the administration of Chief Samuel Mbakwe, former governor of the then Imo state, was sited. The water scheme meant to supply treated water to the 9 villages of Item, with a population of over 45,000 people, has been moribund for sometime now as a result of certain electrical and mechanical challenges, including epileptic electrical supply. The purpose of the visit was to see how the water scheme can be reactivated and reticulated to serve the 9 villages of Item. On hand to receive the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for House of Representatives, Bende Federal Constituency, were His Royal Highness, Eze Nelson Agwu, Ezeudo Amaekpu Item, Senior Apostle Johnson Onuoha, the Home Branch Chairman, of Apuanu Item Development Union, the President General, Apuanu Item Development Union and Hon. Emma Trumps Eke who guided the team on the site tour, among teeming youths who came out in their numbers to receive the august visitors.

Benjamin Kalu visits Item Water Scheme

Recall that over the past two weeks, Chief Kalu has been on a familiarization/fact-finding tour of the various wards in his constituency; an innovative approach to representation he says is aimed that equipping him with the right set of facts to make adequate representation showcasing his constituency’s strengths and areas of needs to the federal government, local and foreign NGOs and other world health bodies. Earlier in the week he visited the Amaudo Itumbauzo Centre for mentally ill destitute as well as the Uzuakoli Leprosy C entre. After the tour of the facility, Chief Benjamin Kalu commended the youths of Item for protecting the water scheme from vandalization for the past 39 years. He encouraged them to replace the last security guard who passed recently. Before leaving, Chief Kalu thanked the people of Item and promised to attract the requisite attention of the appropriate ministries in the federal government to revive and undertake reticulation of the water scheme.
