Imo State Takes Major Player Role In Gas Business, As ANOH Gas Signs 16 Years Deal

The status of Imo State is gradually changing from a normal oil and gas producing state to the major gas producing state in the country following a recent business deal.

According to available information, landmark 16-year Gas Sale Agreement has been signed and sealed between Renaissance Africa Energy, owners of Asa North Ohaji (ANOH) Gas Plant and Indorama Fertilizer FZE, Rivers State.

This is a significant step toward unlocking the economic potential of the South East and strengthening regional industrial cooperation.

Under the agreement, the ANOH Gas Processing Facility in Ohaji Imo State, will supply up to 60 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (60 MMscf/d) to Indorama Fertilizer FZE in Rivers State.

This development effectively positions Imo State as a major supplier of natural gas to one of Nigeria’s leading industrial companies, demonstrating the growing importance of the state’s energy resources to the national economy.

This is more than a commercial transaction—it is evidence that strategic investments in the South East can drive industrialisation, create jobs, generate revenue, and strengthen economic ties across neighbouring states.

Natural gas produced in Imo State will support increased fertiliser production, improve agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and contribute to Nigeria’s broader economic diversification agenda.

This achievement reinforces the need for sustained investment in gas infrastructure, processing facilities, pipelines, industrial parks, and other value-added industries across the South East.

Rather than exporting raw resources alone, the region should continue attracting industries that convert its abundant natural resources into finished products and long-term economic prosperity.

According to Renaissance Africa Energy’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tony Attah, the partnership goes beyond gas supply.

It is about creating long-term value by supporting industries, boosting agricultural productivity, creating jobs, and advancing Nigeria’s economic diversification through the utilisation of its abundant natural gas resources.

The agreement also aligns with Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative, which seeks to maximise domestic gas utilisation, expand industrial capacity, and position natural gas as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

With this partnership, Renaissance Africa Energy is helping transform Nigeria’s natural gas resources into economic opportunities that will benefit industries, businesses, farmers, and millions of Nigerians for years to come.

For those in the Southeast, you now see how important you are and how much you need Nigeria as well as Nigeria needs you.

The fact that Imo State is now exporting natural gas to a major company based in Rivers State is a welcome development that showcases the South East’s growing role in powering industries beyond its borders.

The future of the country is in gas and technology. Today, Imo State has not just the largest gas deposit, but equally one of the largest gas companies in Africa, ANOH.

In technology, it has the Imo Digital City, where AI is marrying reality now. Economic power is changing hands in Nigeria and while ordinary men slept, power brokers are building new economic power corridors, Imo State is the gateway.
