Staff Sergeant Amoke, the soldier who led the operation that ended the reign of the notorious Abia-born kidnap kingpin, Obioma Nwankwo, also known as ‘Osisikankwu’, in Aba in 2010,
has been honoured by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti

DrumAfricanews reports that when the ‘Osisikankwu’ led a notorious kidnapping hoodlums was terrorising Aba and its environs between 2009 and 2010, Amoke, a member of the Nigerian Army, played a key role in tracking and apprehending the gang leader, restoring security to the state.

During a visit to the soldier at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Otti pledged to sponsor Amoke for overseas medical treatment to ensure his recovery and return to good health.

Addressing journalists after the visit, Amoke recounted his ordeal following a motor accident in the North East while still in active duty.

According to him, it was that accident that left him with serious injuries to his legs, and expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the support and the promise of treatment abroad.

“It was actually an accident while on duty in the North East, and the initial treatment did not help. I am so happy and excited that Governor Otti remembers those who fought for Abia State. His support will motivate other military personnel to serve diligently,” he said.

Amoke detailed his assignment in Abia, explaining that his team’s role was to track kidnappers and criminals to restore peace.

He recalled how ‘Osisikankwu’ even offered him N50 million to let him continue his criminal activities, which he refused.

“I was on general patrol across Abia State, covering areas from Ngwa High School to Asa, Onicha Ngwa, and Ikot Ekpene. I refused the bribe, and that brought joy to the people of Abia State,” he said.

He added that his honesty and commitment to duty had earned him respect and recognition, stating: “A good job pays. Today, I am proud and grateful to Governor Otti for remembering me and supporting me.”

Otti’s gesture highlights the state government’s appreciation for security personnel who have contributed to maintaining peace and safety in Abia.
