Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved a ₦30,000 monthly stipend for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member deployed to the state as part of measures to improve their welfare during the mandatory national service programme.

The governor disclosed the welfare package through the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.

Representing Governor Nwifuru at the ceremony, Onyia stated that the state government remained committed to the security, welfare, and personal development of corps members serving in Ebonyi.

He described Ebonyi as a peaceful and hospitable state with opportunities for young Nigerians to develop themselves, interact with people from different cultural backgrounds and contribute to community development.

“This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia said on Friday.

He urged the corps members to approach their service year with discipline and dedication, making meaningful contributions at their primary places of assignment across the state.

Onyia also encouraged them to use the service year to develop new skills, build professional relationships and promote unity through positive interaction with their host communities.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi State Government for its continued partnership with the scheme and its investment in youth development.

Maidariya, however, appealed to the state government to address several infrastructure needs at the orientation camp located at the Old MacGregor College in Afikpo.

She called for the modernisation of the central camp kitchen and the construction of a standard dining facility to improve conditions for corps members and camp officials.

The NYSC coordinator also requested the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre at the camp.

She identified the renovation of the camp’s perimeter fence and improvements to facilities within the multi-purpose hall as other areas requiring government intervention.

Maidariya said improved infrastructure would strengthen the orientation programme and provide corps members with a better environment for training, skills development and national integration.

Addressing the newly sworn-in corps members, she urged them to maintain discipline and participate actively in all camp activities.

She reminded them that patriotism, integrity and selfless service are among the core values of the NYSC programme and urged them to uphold these values throughout their service year.

Maidariya also commended camp officials, resource personnel and collaborating security agencies for their contributions to maintaining order and ensuring the smooth operation of the orientation exercise.

The swearing-in ceremony featured the formal administration and signing of the Oath of Allegiance by the newly deployed corps members.

The event also included tactical drills by the Man ‘O’ War unit, traditional ceremonial performances and an official inspection of infrastructure projects within the orientation camp.

The ₦30,000 monthly stipend approved by the Ebonyi State Government will provide additional financial support to corps members serving in the state and further strengthen the government’s welfare programme for young Nigerians participating in the national service scheme.

The initiative also reinforces the state’s partnership with the NYSC and reflects the administration’s broader focus on youth development, security and economic empowerment.
