When invited to the stage, the Spokesman advocated that beyond elections, true governance knows no party colour and therefore should be for all and needs the support of all. This was during his birthday wishes at the celebration of the 56th birthday of his long time friend and associate HE. Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Abia State Governor, who turned 56 despite all the health challenges he recently suffered.
Recall that they were both transition committee chairmen about 17 years ago having worked under the same political platform with the two former governors of Abia state .
He reminded the governor of his pledge to strategically partner with his office as a member of the House of Representatives and has maintained that over the years . Promising to sustain their relationship beyond his time as the Governor of the state because they were friends before he became governor and will remain friends after his tenure. He took time to thank God for preserving the life of the Governor and wished him longer life while praising the beautiful wife for always supporting the governor and for pulling this event together as well as personally inviting him.
The spokesman who got the message flew in from Abuja within 24 hours to honour his dear friend . The event had other members of the house of reps in the persons of Hon Uko Nkole, Hon. Darlynton Nwokocha and Hon. Sam Onuigbo as well as the speaker of the house of Assembly Rt Hon Chinedum Orji who acknowledged publicly that he has been friends with Hon. Benjamin Kalu for years and was very glad to see him at the event. According to the Speaker, this is the kind of politics our generation is focusing on.
He praised the wife of the governor for going across the divide to invite this honourable member from APC who is loved and respected by his husband and the government of Abia state.
In his response the governor said, I may not be surprised seeing the members of PDP from the National Assembly here but am very touched seeing my name sake who is of the APC coming all the way from Abuja to share this beautiful moment with me . It shows nothing but genuine love and I am touched . This your kind of politics will take you places and I appreciate your coming . I now know that my wife knows my friends and how to get them , I will retaliate by organising one for her and inviting her own friends . He went on to say that Abia is a work in progress and Abians should expect more going forward because Hod has given him a second chance for a reason .
Hon Kalu was seen embraced by major political party leaders who have been his friends while in the same party before now . A moment of great Union as echoed by one of the aides sitting beside our reporter . According to him “ he seem to know every one here and closely too”? His colleague responded that they all have been from the same political family long before now and I sense they are about getting together for something big that will benefit Abians “.
