More communities like Uzuakoli, Ozuitem, Alayi, and Itumbauzo are set to receive Federal Government Intervention on the ecological needs of the community as Member representing Bende Federal Constituency and Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu draws the attention of the House to ecological problems facing these communities.
You may recall that Rep. Kalu who moved the first motion of the House on ecological intervention (HM-001), in that motion drew the attention of the Federal Government to the ecological needs in various communities in Bende Federal Constituency. Fortunately, some communities such as Umuimenyi Nkpa have received interventions in the construction of roads and bridges to provide solutions to their ecological problems. However other communities mentioned in the motion like Uzuakoli, Ozuitem, Alayi, and Itumbauzo are yet to be visited. Members of these communities have paid several visits to the Honourable Member soliciting the attention of the Federal Government to the impending disaster in the communities.
Based on this appeal, Rep. Kalu sought the attention of the House to amend a similar motion presented before them to take care of ecological needs through NEMA and the North East Development Commission. In the prayers of the lawmaker, he requested that a fresh needs analysis be carried out by the Ecological Fund Office and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the following communities; Uzuakoli, Ozuitem, Alayi, and Itumbauzo for the immediate implementation of palliative measures in the areas affected by the problem of flooding that has resulted to erosion, landslide, and other ecological needs.
This motion was unanimously adopted by the House of Representatives and by this motion there is hope for the communities as the current intervention in Nkpa is set to be replicated in other communities within the shortest time.
Rep. Kalu while speaking to a Drum Africa Correspondent as to what next, stated that the motion will be properly referred to the Ecological Committee of the House from here it will be transmitted for legislative compliance to the Ecological Funds Office as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission adding that he is optimistic that the timeline for this intervention will be shortened to ensure that it is accommodated within the current administration.
