In a move to restore the glory of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Dozie has began moves towards restoring the living conditions of students at the prestigious institution.
The erudite professor recently took over from Professor Nnenna Oti embarked on an unscheduled familiarisation tour of the university’s residential facilities, to see where improvements are needed.
There was an atmosphere of excitement and jubilation across the students’ hostels of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) as heade the move.
The visit, which attracted enthusiastic cheers from students, formed part of the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to obtaining a firsthand assessment of the living conditions in the hostels and identifying areas requiring urgent attention.
Addressing the students during the inspection, Prof. Dozie stressed that the purpose of the visit was to personally evaluate the state of the hostels rather than rely solely on reports.
“I am here to have a firsthand assessment of the hostel conditions. I want to see the rooms with the worst conditions so that I can understand the realities on the ground and make informed decisions,” he said.
The VC urged the students to remain focused on their academic pursuits and to continue to uphold the rules and regulations guiding hostel administration, emphasizing that discipline and responsible conduct are essential to maintaining a conducive learning environment.
He assured the students that their welfare remains a priority of his administration, while noting that the university would adopt a realistic and phased approach to improving hostel infrastructure.
“There will be no quick fixes. We will prioritise what we can do within the available resources, while working towards lasting improvements,” Prof. Dozie stated.
Reaffirming the university’s commitment to producing graduates who will make meaningful contributions to society, the VC reminded the students that they are the future leaders the institution is nurturing.
