The Imo State chapter of the All Action Party (APP) held its state congress in Owerri on Sunday April 26, 2026, and elected Hon. Ernest Njesi as the substantive State Chairman of the party.
DrumAfricanews reports that the APP congress held at the State Party Secretariat along MCC Uratta Road, Owerri have been adjuged to be a successful one, new State Working Committee (SWC), has emerged.
The congress, which drew party faithful and stakeholders from across the state, marked a significant milestone in the consolidation of the party’s internal democratic processes.
The election of Njesi was greeted with widespread approval from delegates and observers, reflecting a strong consensus on his leadership capacity and commitment to the growth of the party.
From all indications, his election signals a new phase for the APP in Imo State as it intensifies efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of future electoral contests.
Other members of the SWC who were also elected to steer the affairs of the party include: Engr. Henry Alaribe as Deputy Chairman for Owerri Zone; Barr. Ogemdi Ezeionye as Deputy
Chairmen for Orlu while Hon. Ernest Ezirim was elected elected deputy Chairmen for Okigwe zones.
Meanwhile, Engr. Emeka Onwukwe was elected State Secretary, while Hon. Peter Etoh was elected as the State Treasurer.
Barr. Uche Nwosu emerge as State Legal Adviser, assisted by Barr. Casmir Anyanwu as Deputy State Legal Adviser.
Hon. Steve Nnadi was elected State Publicity Secretary, with Hon. Wisdom Echefu serving as Deputy Publicity Secretary.
For the youth wing, Comrade Isidore Chukwuemeka was elected as State Youth Leader, alongside Hon. Chinonye Ezurike as Deputy Youth Leader.
In the women’s wing, Lady Stella Chukwu was elected State Woman Leader, with Mrs. May Obiyo as Deputy State Woman Leader, among other officials who make up the newly constituted executive committee.
The composition of the executive reflects a blend of experience, youth inclusion, and zonal balance.
The congress was conducted by a committee led by Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, whose team was commended for ensuring a transparent and credible process.
The exercise was monitored by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the Electoral Party Monitoring (EPM) head, Dr. Nneka Iluogu, alongside security agencies who ensured a peaceful environment throughout the proceedings.
Speaking at the event, the National Assembly Caucus Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, described the APP as a rising and formidable opposition force in Imo State.
He noted that the party currently boasts two members in the National Assembly, positioning it as the leading opposition platform after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ugochinyere charged party members to intensify grassroots mobilization and expand the party’s reach across all communities in the state.
He emphasized that sustained unity, discipline, and strategic engagement would be critical to securing victory in the forthcoming general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Ernest Njesi expressed profound gratitude to the leadership and members of the party for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to uphold the ideals of the APP, promote unity within the ranks, and provide purposeful leadership that will position the party for greater achievements in Imo State and beyond.
