The Catholic Church in Nigeria has prepared Thursday, 12th March 2026, as a day to bestow its esteemed Grand Patron award upon the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Drum Africa gathered that the solemn ceremony will mark the commencement of the Laity Council Week at the Catholic Secretariat in Abuja.
From impeccable sources, our correspondent gathered that the honour, conferred under the venerable auspices of the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN), serves not merely as a tribute to a public servant but as a testament to a life lived in quiet dedication to the teachings of the Gospel.
From the letter communicating the decision to the governor made available to his media aides, the church leadership reflected on the virtue of selflessness.
They noted that the award acknowledges Governor Uzodimma’s unwavering commitment to the ecclesial community, from the humble parish to the sacred diocesan level, and his steadfast devotion to uplifting the dignity of the Catholic faithful across the nation.
The letter, which was signed by the National President, Sir Ambrose Obioha, and the National Secretary General, Mr Francis Ojo Olayinka, praised the Governor’s singular dedication to the vineyard of the Lord.
“Your tireless efforts in supporting the Church and your services to humanity are truly commendable,” the letter reads.
Drum Africa reports that the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, will preside over the Pontifical Mass preceding the award ceremony, which will add spiritual gravity to the occasion.
