Controversial rapper Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo, has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody.
According to his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, the court granted Speed Darlington bail, marking a significant development in his case.
Alieke disclosed this on his Instagram handle on Monday.“
Apki has been granted bail by the court,” he wrote.
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State. His arrest was linked to allegations of abusing Afrofusion star Burna Boy. Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that Burna Boy was indeed responsible for his client’s arrest.
The controversy surrounding Speed Darlington’s arrest began when he publicly taunted Burna Boy over his association with US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Following his initial arrest, Speed Darlington vowed to continue speaking out against Burna Boy.
In a recent update, Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Adeyanju, stated that the court had granted their application for Speed Darlington’s release. He noted that the singer would either be arraigned within 48 hours or released on bail, emphasizing that justice would ultimately prevail despite potential delays.
“Our FREP application for Speed Darlington a.k.a has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time but justice will always prevail,” he wrote.
