The Force Headquarters has confirmed that former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha was actually arrested in Abuja on Monday, but explained that he was granted bail on self recognition after an hour’s interrogation.
Police sources also confirmed that Okorocha was arrested in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy and forgery relating to the primary result of APC for Imo West senatorial zone.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP ANIETE INIEDU, who confirmed the arrest and the release told the media that Okorocha has been directed to report to the police on Tuesday for further interrogation after his release on bail on Monday.
The arrest took place at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja on Monday, October 12, 2026 while Okorocha was attending the reception for the conferment of SAN title on Prof Nnamdi Obiaraeri.
According to multiple media sources in Nigeria, including Channels TV and the Sun newspapers, the arrest was connected to allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The report indicated that law enforcement authorities arrested Okorocha after obtaining a bench warrant.
The police were said to have obtained the bench warrant following Okorocha’s alleged failure to honour invitations for interrogation.
The matter reportedly concerns an alleged dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC), senatorial primary election results for Imo West.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reportedly questioned a document circulating under Okorocha’s name, which claimed that he had won the APC primary, while the commission recognises Governor Hope Uzodimma as the legitimate winner.
However, the affirmation by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu that Okorocha was indeed arrested and released on bail contradicts a statement by the same Okorocha media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, that he was not arrested.
The same Onwuemeodo who had vehemently denied that there was a bench warrant for the arrest of Okorocha, later contradicted himself again when he admitted the existence of the bench warrant but said it had been vacated.
Onwuemeodo contradictory statements had also given a lie to his claim that the Okorocha dynasty has never been caught up in a lie, even when many believe it is known for manipulating the truth often.
