The member representing the Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly,Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr. has emerged as candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Abia South Senatorial District election, 2027.
Erondu, who hails from the same local government as Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who is is hoping to spend 24 years on the Abia South Senatorial District seat come 2031 and is currently the only recognized aspirant in the Labour Party (LP).
The Obingwa West lawmaker defeated three other aspirants with a high-margin victory announced by the election officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kalu Agabaeze.
DrumAfricanews reports that Abia South is made up of six local government areas: Aba North, Aba South, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West local government areas.
Our correspondent gathered that the Abia South Senatorial District primary election of the APC was contested by four aspirants: Erondu Uchenna Erondu from Obingwa, Chief Nyerere Anyim from Obingwa, Dame Blessing Nwagba from Aba North and Prince Paul Ikonne from Aba North.
Votes that came from the six local government areas that make up Abia South showed that Erondu scored a total of 16,614 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Nyerere Anyim, who scored 5,206.
The two other aspirants from Aba North, Dame Blessing Nwagba and Prince Paul Ikonne, scored 4,156 and 4,099 votes, respectively.
Breakdown of the results showed that in Aba North LGA, Erondu polled 1,840 votes, while Anyim scored 1,071 votes, Ikonne secured 1,504 votes, and Nwagba got 1,447 votes.
In Aba South LGA, Erondu recorded 2,629 votes, defeating Anyim, who polled 1,085 votes; Ikonne, with 1,219 votes; and Nwagba, with 1,195 votes.
At Obingwa LGA, Erondu, a grassroots politician maintained a strong lead with 3,612 votes, while Anyim secured 504 votes, Ikonne got 41 votes, and Nwagba polled 27 votes.
In Ukwa East LGA, Erondu garnered 1,836 votes, ahead of Anyim’s 646 votes, Ikonne’s 329 votes, and Nwagba’s 437 votes.
Results from Ukwa West LGA showed Erondu polling 3,675 votes, while Anyim scored 2,119 votes, Ikonne secured 716 votes, and Nwagba got 836 votes.
In Ugwunagbo LGA, Erondu further consolidated his lead with 3,022 votes, while Anyim polled 285 votes, Ikonne got 290 votes, and Nwagba secured 214 votes.
