The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that the rumours making rounds that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has endorsed Governor Alex Otti for the 2027 governorship election are false.
DrumAfricanews reports that an Owerri-based newspaper with the name “The Nation’s Eyes” circulated the story all over the South East, resulting in many people questioning what led to such a decision by the Deputy Speaker.
Uche Aguoru, Publicity Secretary, APC Abia State, described the story as misleading, malicious, and deceptive propaganda and accused Governor Otti’s media team of being responsible of manufacturing and circulating the story across various media platforms.
Aguoru claims that ordinarily, Abians are already aware that the Otti administration is built on propaganda, media manipulation, and misinformation, but that the APC had to respond because many people could be deceived.
“For the benefit of unsuspecting members of the public who may be misled by these desperate falsehoods, we wish to categorically state that Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu remains a loyal, committed, and dedicated party man, as well as the undisputed leader of the APC in Abia State.
“Is it not embarrassing that a government that prides itself on illusory self-praise is now desperately shopping for endorsements?
“Let it be made very clear that at no time, either publicly or privately, has Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term.”
Aguoru said that on the contrary, the Deputy Speaker has remained resolute and fully committed to the mission of ensuring that the APC wins all elective positions in Abia State and takes over Government House, Umuahia, come May 29, 2027.
“His determination to ensure that the Labour Party administration in Abia State is voted out remains strong, consistent, and unwavering, especially in view of what many Abians consider the mismanagement of the state across critical sectors of governance,” Aguoru said.
He urged Abians to remain steadfast, united, and committed in their support for the APC as the party continues in their quest to offer a credible alternative and a better future for the people of Abia State.
