Anastasia Odochi Uchenna, Veteran broadcaster and political commentator has officially stepped into the political arena, declaring her intention to contest for the Aba Central State Constituency seat in Abia State under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Uchenna, who has spent nearly two decades in journalism and about 16 years actively analysing politics and advocating for good governance, confirmed that she has obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms, signalling the start of her political journey.
Uchenna’s entry marks a transition from media commentary to active participation in governance, something she says has long been a personal goal.
In a heartfelt message addressed to her listeners and supporters, the popular radio personality expressed deep appreciation for the loyalty she has enjoyed over the years, describing her audience as more than just followers.
She emphasised that her ambition is driven by a desire to contribute directly to legislative processes and bring her experience in governance discourse into practical service.
“For the past 20 years I have been behind the mic talking do the right thing, do the right thing. Now, I want to show people how to do those right things I’ve been talking about. I want to show leadership and, very importantly, to encourage Abia women.
“8 years I’m counting; we don’t have one woman in the Abia State House of Assembly. And when you look at the statistics of the voting, the women and youths vote more. We vote more, and we’re relegated to the background and turned into cheerleaders whose jobs are to sink in the party meetings.
“These are what I want to change, and I’m ready. If my party finds me worthy, then we go to the field. The PDP is giving a voice to the young people. If you look at those who had picked their forms recently, it’s mostly youths.
“The PDP of today is not that of yesterday. It’s now rebranded as the youths have taken over from those who left. I’ve lived in Aba for 13 years, I’m counting, and Aba people have shown me love, and this is the time to return it.”
