Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Club 17 Peace Initiative, Abia State chapter, has unanimously adopted President Bola Tinubu for re-election.
In a unanimous resolution, the group also joined calls across Abia State urging the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to consider joining the 2027 Abia State governorship race.
DrumAfricanews reports that the decision was reached during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, where members gathered to review both national and state-level political directions.
The meeting was well attended by the leadership of the group, led by Hon. Chief George Nnana Kalu and Hon. Chief Ibuchim, alongside the state executive committee and all Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen.
Our correspondent gathered that discussions at the gathering reflected a strong sense of unity and shared political purpose among members.
DrumAfricanews learnt that members of the club described the deputy speaker as a prominent political figure whose experience at the national level could significantly impact governance in the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Chairman George Nnana Kalu assured that the initiative would offer “unalloyed and total support” should Benjamin Kalu accept the call to contest.
Nnana Kalu emphasised that the group’s backing would be organised, consistent, and sustained throughout the political season leading to 2027.
LGA chairmen present at the event reportedly expressed excitement and optimism, welcoming the resolution with enthusiasm.
Their reaction reflected what was described as growing grassroots anticipation over the possibility of Benjamin Kalu entering the gubernatorial race.
The meeting concluded on a note of renewed unity and political alignment, with the Club 17 Peace Initiative reaffirming its commitment to mobilisation efforts across Abia State in line with its adopted resolutions for both national and state political engagements.
