This is Chief Ikedi Ohakim. The man behind the Clean and Green initiative in Imo State between 2007 and 2011, with his new face of Imo mantra.
He was the man that brought out the beauty of the capital city of Imo state Owerri, with his regular monthly cleanup exercises across the states.
Chief Ikedi Ohakim during his regime provided to the people of Imo State over 500 Keke New Face to help combat challenges faced by Imo people on transportation after the removal of Okada which was a move that saved the lives of many Imolites.
He also provided over 500 saloon cars as well as about 100 station wagon cars which he distributed at very affordable costs to Ndi Imo.
Ohakim provided over 500 Toyota Corolla cars through ICT to Imolites to provide jobs and empower them at very low prices, hence reduce transportation burdens in Imo state then.
The kimkim new face project was also targeted to help transportation in the municipality but was hampered by lack of spare parts.
Chief Ohakim procured three Marcoplo luxury buses for ITC and provided them with many new hummer buses and ITC boomed under his administration.
He procured over 20 brand new large buses to help convey people within the state capital and beyond.
Demolition of illegal structures within the state capital was a norm under him. While many people were happy about these actions, others were also crying.
He also provided 10,000 jobs for Imo sons and Daughters, which was thwarted by Rochas Okorocha.
His administration was made up of several unrealized dreams of transforming in Imo State into a world class city including construction of Ugwuta wonder lake, dredging of Nworie river etc.
Some of the mistakes he made as a governor were ;
1. Increasing Imo State University School fees.
2. Renaming the institution to Evan Enwerem University.
The greatest propaganda against his government was that he beat up a Reverend Father. And that was the selling point of his successor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
He is presenting himself again for re-election come 2027 under the All Progressive Congress, APC.
