Enugu State Governor Dr Peter Mbah on Tuesday received a delegation of the City Boy Movement, led by the South-East Coordinator, Dr Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, at the Enugu State government house, Lion Building, Independence Layout, Enugu.
The governor said he was delighted to receive the leadership and members of the City Boy Movement, a coalition of young professionals, entrepreneurs, and grassroots mobilisers supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, led by its South East Coordinator, Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana).
He added that their discussion during the visit centred on the place of Ndi Igbo in Nigeria’s political architecture and the need for the South East to return to the strategic politics that defined our forebears.
Mbah said that historically, Ndi Igbo have never played politics driven by sentiment, as their forebears understood the value of strategic alliances and were always willing to have handshakes across the Niger whenever necessary, and that such a legacy must not be eroded.
According to him, “In recent years, however, the Southeast has experienced unprecedented political fragmentation and disconnection from the centre. The result is that we are hardly present where critical national decisions are made.”
Mbah said that strategic politics requires realism, objectivity, and a clear understanding of the national landscape.
He said that Ndigbo must be analytical, deal with reality, and position themselves where decisions about the future of the country, Nigeria, are taken.
“For the South East, the path forward is clear. We must reconnect, build alliances, and return fully to the centre of national decision-making,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Obinna Iyiegbu, leader of the delegation, said earlier that the visit to the Lion Building formed part of the movement’s ongoing engagements across the South-East region.
Drum Africa reports that Iyiegbu recently announced on his personal social media handle that ‘The Renewed Hope National Youth Tour is coming to Owerri, Imo State, on the 13th – 14th of March, 2026.
According to him, “The energy is about to be unmatched! This movement is more than just a gathering — it’s a platform to inform, empower, and engage Nigerian youths as we continue to drive the vision of the Renewed Hope agenda championed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Powered by the vibrant City Boy Movement, this tour brings together young leaders, innovators, and changemakers who believe in a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
“If you believe in the future of Nigeria and the power of youth leadership, this is where you need to be. Let’s connect. Let’s build. Let’s move Nigeria forward.”
