The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its much-anticipated 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally fixed for Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

This comes as the party battles internal tremors and external political heat, especially with recent high-profile defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Monday, October 13, via a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on X (formerly Twitter). According to him, the decision was reached after an emergency meeting of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.

“Distinguished members of the NEC may recall that the 103rd NEC meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, 15th October, 2025,” the statement read.

“But in view of recent developments in the party, the NWC, in line with its constitutional powers, has approved the postponement of the meeting. A new date will be communicated in due course.”

While the party did not publicly specify what the “recent developments” are, political watchers believe the PDP is trying to regroup following a wave of defections to the APC – a move that has sparked internal anxiety.

In the heat of it all, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has come out swinging. Speaking to journalists on Monday, he said no amount of political pressure, from within or outside; will derail the PDP’s National Convention scheduled for November 15 -16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“People can defect, but the soul of the PDP remains intact,” he said. “The National Convention is not under threat. We are marching forward.”

Mohammed’s statement is seen as a strong message to party faithful and political opponents alike; the PDP is not giving up its fight just yet.

The postponement of the NEC meeting comes at a sensitive time for the PDP. With the 2027 general elections looming on the horizon, the party is under pressure to solidify its base, rebuild trust, and convince Nigerians it remains a viable alternative to the APC.

While the National Working Committee assures that the new NEC meeting date will be announced soon, all eyes are now on the Ibadan convention – the next major test of the PDP’s unity and relevance.
