As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to battle a wave of high-profile defections, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has come out swinging-branding those jumping ship as “cowards”.

Mohammed made the fiery remarks during the inauguration of the media and publicity sub-committee for the party’s upcoming national convention, scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State on November 15.

“Staying back to fight is what makes a man or woman. It’s an act of cowardice to leave because of one man or woman,” he declared to party faithful.

Defections Shaking PDP Ahead of National Convention

In the last few months, the PDP has been bleeding big names. Earlier this year, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom’s Umo Eno quietly exited the party. Now, all eyes are on Enugu’s Governor Peter Mbah, who is expected to formally leave next Tuesday.

Speculations are also swirling around Bayelsa’s Governor Douye Diri and Taraba’s Governor Agbu Kefas, both said to be weighing their exit options as well. But despite the chaos, Governor Bala is not backing down.

“This convention is here to stay, and we are going to Ibadan by the grace of God,” he said. “No Jupiter will stop us. If the dark forces succeed over PDP, they have succeeded over Nigeria.”

Governor Bala didn’t hold back on the current state of the nation either. He said that since PDP left Aso Rock in 2015, the country has experienced a vacuum in governance that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed to fill.

“We have been suffering as a party and weathering the storm. But Nigeria itself has suffered more. Things have never been this bad,” he said.

As PDP gears up for its convention in Ibadan, the internal struggle for unity, strength, and political survival continues to heat up.
