The Senator representing Bauchi North in the National Assembly, Samaila Dahuwa Kaila, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal battles and factional divisions as his reason for leaving.

In a letter dated October 6, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Tsokuwa/Kofar Gabar Ward, Katagum LGA of Bauchi State, Senator Kaila made it clear that the growing disunity in the party has made it hard for him to effectively represent his constituents in the 10th Senate.

“The incessant internal squabble that has led to unnecessary factionalisation within the PDP is seriously affecting my ability to deliver on my constitutional responsibilities,” the Senator wrote.

PDP Crisis Deepens in Bauchi

Kaila’s resignation is the latest blow to the PDP in Bauchi State, which has seen a string of internal struggles between factions loyal to different political bigwigs in recent years. In 2023, the party barely held on to its structure after a leadership tussle rocked the state chapter during the lead-up to the general elections.

While he did not reveal his next political destination, there has been speculations that he may be eyeing a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), or possibly one of the rising third-force parties positioning for 2027.

The Senator, who was elected on the PDP platform, thanked the party for the opportunity to serve but noted that he had consulted widely with his supporters before making the move.

“Accordingly, I hereby write to inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” Kaila stated in the letter.

Efforts to get his reaction to speculations about his next political move were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone went unanswered.

With the 2027 elections slowly coming into view, this development is expected to trigger a fresh round of political realignments in Bauchi North and beyond.
