The Northern Senators Forum has condemned the brutal killing of at least 35 civilians in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

In a condolence message issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the Forum Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, condoled with the people of Kaura Namoda, particularly the families of victims who were murdered despite ransom payments.

Yar’adua described the incident as a painful reminder of Nigeria’s deepening security challenges.

He said, “We condemn this heinous act in the strongest possible terms and declare that it does not reflect the values, people, and aspirations of the North.

“Our region is known for its hospitality, peace, and tranquillity, and such acts of violence only serve to undermine our cherished values.”

The northern senators said they stand in solidarity with Zamfara residents and prayed for the repose of the departed.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Zamfara State during this difficult time and pray that Allah grants the departed souls eternal rest. May their families find solace in the face of this tragedy,” the statement read.

The lawmakers also called for urgent security action to prevent a recurrence.

While commending the federal government’s efforts, the Forum urged further support for security agencies.

“We urge the security agencies to collaborate with local vigilantes to ensure that those responsible for this atrocity are brought to justice.

“Furthermore, we call on the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to be more proactive in their response to security threats. Intelligence gathering and sharing among agencies must be improved to prevent such incidents in the future.”

“We appreciate the efforts of Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the security agencies, including funding and recent mass recruitments. We hope that more training of personnel will be achieved to curb incidents of this kind,” the statement added.
