The Press Release reads:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUNE 12, 2022
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.
Today, I join all well-meaning Nigerians to celebrate this historic day which has great significance on our democratic journey in the fourth republic. A day that reminds us of the very essence of leadership through the mandate expressed by the people’s fundamental rights. In commemorating this remarkable day, I acknowledge the responsibilities of both leaders to engender good governance as well the citizens who participate in the democratic process to ensure the reward of good democratic governance is achieved.
I am also honoured to celebrate on this day, the third year of delivering the democratic mandate of my beloved constituents successfully. Reminded of my solemn responsibility to the good people of Bende Federal Constituency, whose political understanding and firm decision afforded me victory exactly three years ago, I can only continue to prove my gratitude by working relentlessly to fulfill the promises on my manifesto to which the projects spread across all the nooks and crannies of Bende is evidential.
Granted there are global and national challenges that have gotten our society tied to the doldrums of an economic downturn and dogged by sporadic insecurity, it is worthy to note that growth as a process under the dedication of strong and committed leadership, there is hope for future Nigeria in sustainable national development.
To this end, the 9th House of Representatives, which I am privileged to be a part of has remained committed to the primary mission and legislative responsibility of advancing our democracy among the comity of nations. We have among other tasks played a key role in improving the quality of Nigeria’s democracy through the recent electoral reform which saw the major amendment of the obsolete Electoral Act 2010 to reflect our current realities. A credible election is in view of the efficient implementation of this legislative instrument.
As the 2023 General Elections draws closer, it is imperative that increase the participatory element of our democracy by ensuring we all exercise our franchise. This commenced by securing our permanent voter’s card in the remaining days left to finalize this data capturing program by INEC. Hence, I urge all Bende Constituents and Nigerians at large to be part of it as it is a civic responsibility for all responsible citizens.
I must also express my immense gratitude to the leaders, traditional rulers, faith-based organizations, and other stakeholders of Bende Federal Constituency for the constant support, guidance and wise counsel provided to me as your representative over these three years. Indeed, your goodwill has helped the democratic status of my administration. Thank you. The same goes for all my aides and supporters at various levels, the trophies, awards, and accolades for these three years belong to you.
I remain committed to delivering your mandate at the Green Chambers even as our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed your nomination for me to represent you again for the next tenure of four years at the end of this one.
Congratulations to Nigeria, on your 23rd year of continuous democratic practice.
May God continue to bless us all.
Signed,
Rep. Benjamin Kalu
