The member representing Bende Federal Constituency and Spokesperson, House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Kalu was conferred the Chieftaincy title ‘Kpakpando Ohafia’ meaning ‘Star of Ohafia’ by the Council of Monarchs in Ohafia, on Sunday 2nd January, 2022 at Achichi Elu, Ohafia.

While conferring the title on him, the Chairman, Ohafia Council of Monarchs, Ezie. Prof. E.U.L Imaga stated that the law maker was being recognized for his outstanding leadership and quality representation within the last two years in the National Assembly, he commended Rep. Kalu for his ability to deliver the dividends of democracy to his constituency and beyond, adding that he has not only represented Bende, but also Old Bende and Abia State at large.

They appreciated his efforts especially for attracting the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road adding that his efficiency in representation is indeed making the Igbo race proud.

Also present at the ceremony was HRM Dr. Kalu Ikenga and HRM Dr. Emmanuel Kalu Ezeogo, who confirmed that on their visit to to the Hon. Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola to express their gratitude, he had asked them go back and thank Rep. Benjamin Kalu for working tirelessly to attract this all important road.

In his response, the Representative expressed gratitude to them for the honor, promising to do more. He re-emphasized that the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road was one he fought for to secure its approval from the Federal Executive Council as a result of its abandoned state for a long while and the economic benefits to the zone, expressing his delight that the construction of the road has commenced. Rep. Kalu further assured them of his commitment to do more not just in Bende but for the good of Abia State.

The event had in attendance dignitaries across the state including Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, Deputy Speaker Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Emeka Wogu, Fmr. Min. of Labour, Chief Emeka Atuma, Hon. Atu Obioma, Rev. Jemima Ola Kalu, Chief. Amobi Ogah amongst others.
