Press Release

UZUAKOLI WOMEN PROTEST BILLING AND LACK OF ELECTRICITY

My attention has been brought to the recent demonstration by the Uzuakoli women of Bende Federal Constituency against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for indiscriminate billing and failure to provide electricity supply to communities in Uzuakoli, Bende, Abia State.

Constant electricity supply is central to the socio-economic activities of any country. It is clear that a lot of the businesses located in Uzuakoli are faced with excruciating consequences of incessant power outages in terms of high production cost, low profitability and low competitiveness of their products in the regional markets.

I therefore state that I am in solidarity with the cries of my constituents and their demand for adequate electricity supply. I feel their pain and reiterate my resolve to use all legal means at my disposal, including the weight of the Office of the Representative to ensure that EEDC and all relevant agencies of the power sector live up to their obligations and improve the power supply to Uzuakoli.

To the good women of Uzuakoli, I say, I am with you. I commend you for the exceptional manner in which you organized and peacefully conducted yourselves during this demonstration. I am committed to ensuring that the same results I achieved with power supply in Bende town are enjoyed in Uzuakoli.

Signed
Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu
Member Representing Bende Federal Constituency
