Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has lauded the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 20th anniversary on the throne.
Kalu said that the Sultan has consistently promoted mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians in his 20 years on the throne of Sokoto Caliphate.
The Deputy Speaker prayed for Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant the Sultan sound health, wisdom and strength for many more years of service to the Sokoto Caliphate, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.
In a goodwill message dated November 3, 2026, personally signed by the Deputy Speaker and addressed to the Sultan who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, congratulating him on the 20th anniversary of his ascension to the throne of the Sokoto Caliphate, Kalu described the two decades of the Sultan’s stewardship as a significant chapter in Nigeria’s traditional and religious leadership.
He said the Sultan has sustained the prestige of Sokoto Caliphate and affirmed its place in the country’s traditional, religious and public life.
“I warmly felicitate with Your Eminence on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of your ascension to the revered throne of the Sokoto Caliphate.
“Two decades of stewardship of this historic institution represent a significant chapter in Nigeria’s traditional and religious leadership. Throughout your reign, Your Eminence has sustained the stature of the Sokoto Caliphate and affirmed its place in the country’s traditional, religious and public life.
“I particularly recognise your contributions to peacebuilding, interfaith dialogue and religious harmony. Through your leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and your engagements across religious divides, you have consistently advocated mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians”, Kalu said.
Kalu recalled the Sultan’s association with the Peace in the South East Project (PISE-P), an initiative he unveiled in Bende on December 29, 2023 aimed at restoring peace in the South East region through a non kinetic approach.
He noted that the Sultan’s representation at the unveiling through the Emir of Bichi was a meaningful expression of solidarity with efforts aimed at addressing insecurity and advancing peace in the South-East.
“Of particular significance was your association with the Peace in the South East Project, which I initiated and unveiled in Bende, Abia State, on 29 December 2023.
“Your Eminence’s representation at the occasion through the Emir of Bichi was a
meaningful expression of solidarity with an initiative aimed at addressing insecurity and advancing peace in the South-East.
“This gesture speaks to a conviction that peace must be pursued as a national undertaking, beyond religious, ethnic and regional considerations. It further illustrates your commitment to the wellbeing of all Nigerians and reinforces the importance of collective leadership in securing the peace our country needs”, he said.
